Puerto Vallarta
A paradise of contrasts
Like no other beach in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta is that

magical place of contrasts between colonial and

modern, sylvan and coastal, calm and agitated. It is a

place for young people and not so young people,

romantics and mundane, sportspeople and bohemians.

Where the jungle meets the sea, Puerto Vallarta offers

visitors a great diversity of sites and activities.

Mismaloya beaches, where you will find “La Jolla de Mismaloya” hotel, which is where the movie “The Night of the Iguana” was filmed.
Colonial architecture and paved streets represent the most traditional aspect of the city and create an ideal place to take long walks. Only short steps from the main plaza is the cathedral of Guadalupe with a crowned tower, a copy of the one used by the empress Carlota. Nearby is the town hall; there you will find murals with scenes representing the founding of the city, painted by Manuel Lepe.

The coastline boulevard, with bronze sculptures and outdoors theater arches, is a great angle to admire a sunset from. Walking along the Cuale riverbanks is a must: there are restaurants, bars, and lots of shops and galleries. Over a hundred handicrafts stands offer wonders from all over the country: skin products, jewelry, ceramics, basketry, clothes, etc. The place is known as the town market Rio Cuale. Handicrafts shops along the coastline boulevard and on Morelos and Juarez streets also have a large variety to offer. The Huicholes, one of the most interesting indigenous cultures in the orb, arrive to the city bringing with them the famous, beautiful art pieces they sell, which are intimately related with their ethnic costumes and rituals.

Vallartan nights are generally quiet and initiate; usually a dinner in one of the stupendous restaurants located at different points throughout the city. Restaurants on the beach, such as La Palapa or El Dorado, are the most romantic (you will always find there a trio or a lone musician playing unforgettable melodies); but those located in the skirts of the mountains around the bay, offer the most spectacular views.

Marina Vallarta is an impressing site. As a symbol of modern times, it allowed Vallarta to fully enter first-level, international tourist-competence. This attractive urbanity, which offers the most recent advancements in port-engineering and full services, has a golf field of 18 holes and a tourist-marine for 640 ships. It offers a number of luxurious hotels, condos, residential neighborhoods, and sophisticated shopping centers.

There are beautiful and unforgettable beaches in Puerto Vallarta, like Mismaloya in the South. Mismaloya is one of the most often visited due to the diversity of sports it offers, its beautiful palapas, and the fact that The Night of the Iguana was filmed there over thirty years ago. Las Estacas is another beautiful beach in the area, where the palm vegetation is truly exuberant. Motion of the waves is regular and adjoins coves, where natural pools are formed between the rocks and it is possible to see the bottom thanks to the transparence of the water.
Enjoying Puerto Vallarta means enjoying a personal

atmosphere; the community that lives there is kind

and proud of who they are. Additionally, several

foreigners have chosen Puerto Vallarta to live in,

making the Barrio Gringo into an essential element

when thinking about Vallarta. Any fun and nature

lover will find there whatever they may seek: beach,

excursions, and traditional and modern sites; in

short, life lots of life.

Playa de los Muertos is a highly visited beach in the central zone, where you can rent boats, go parachuting, and skiing. Very close to the coastline boulevard is Los Camarones, a quiet beach, ideal for those who like solitary sites though it lacks services except those of nearby hotels.

In Nuevo Vallarta, located in the northern part of the city, is Punta de Mita. This is the last redoubt of Banderas Bay in the State of Nayarit. The marine landscape and the vegetation create a beautiful wild scene worth knowing today, since their natural charm will soon be lost. In Marina Vallarta you will find Playa de Oro: 700 meters of fine sand, where you can fish, dive, and ski. Playa El Salado is a bit longer than Playa de Oro, and the waters have an unusual light-brownish color.
