The Tenaxpillo Island Shelters a group of bob tailed macaque monkeys. In order to make a research on their social and sexual behavior they were brought from Puerto Rico in 1974. Nowadays there are more than 60 monkeys, there is leader in their community and he is in charge to protect them against any aggression from outside. The apes are herbivorous and have contributed to clean the calla from the lake. The macaques have become a tourist attraction, everyday from the Catemaco's jetty live boats that make a trip around the island, Veracruz, MEXICO
