Pedro Luro, who married the daughter of the conqueror of the Pampa, General Roca, built a French style mansion in 1908, set right in the Pampean woods with a view of a long and narrow valley with a lake. He brought all the furniture from Europe and enclosed hundreds of hectares with wire fencing in order to raise European boers, pheasants, and Carpathian deers, together with other species of the region. This gave way to a huntuing enclosure (Saint Humbert), visited by friends thanks to a train stop which he ordered to the door of his house. He organized the Saint Humbert feasts visited by European aristocrats, artists and politicians. For many years the mansion was uncared for until the decade of the seventies when it became a natural park and a tourist attraction. |
