The "estancia" is one the most typical forms of living quarters in the Argentine countryside. A type of rural establishment with a certain amount of productive land that may vary in accordance to the location. Its origin goes back to colonial times. La Esperanza has 3,000 hectares and was built in 1876 by Juan Bautista Cazaux. Today this "estancia" is dedicated to agriculture and the raising of cattle. The stud farm "14th of July", which forms part of this, has been producing racing horses from where international champions have originated. However, Villaerde was lately converted into a site directed towards ecological tourism. On one side of the building a replica was built of a fortress of the end of the last century, in memory of the Conquest of the Desert, as in this region battles between the indians and the national military troops were waged. A day in Villaverde is to live the traditions and in the style of one of the least contaminated regions on the face of this planet. |
