Arriving to the San Bernardino de Siena church, of the images procession

This Christian tradition that goes back to the 17th century has become famous in Iztapalapa and in Taxco, Guerrero. In the latter penitent brotherhoods participate along with solemn acts, processions and pilgrimages; amongst them the procession of the virgins on the Monday, the procession of the Christs, an impressive parade on the Thursday wherein participate the crosses venerated in the temples of Taxco and in the chapels of the neighboring towns; the procession of the crucified on Friday, with hooded penitents stripped to the waist carrying enormous bunches of thorny branches as if they were a cross. The mournful acts of Holy Week culminate on the Saturday of Glory and Easter Sunday with the burning of the Judas (pyrotechnics). Finally all festivities center on the opening of the gates to Glory and the Resurrection of the Lord.
