In the Villa of Bilbao in the State of Coahuila, the date plantations are noteworthy. In 1968 the domestic variety was brought from California and planted in 10 hectares. Subsequently the "mezquite" and "chaparro" varieties were added. The dunes are more than 10 hectares near the profile of the Western Sierra Madre. They are located some 60 kms northeast of Torreon and lie on the ancient Mayran Lagoon. Formed by strong winds this exotic land attracts those who care for sand sports. Another point of interest is the Tobacco Cave located at the foot of the "Sierra de Paila". Its historical importance goes back to 1864 when Benito Juárez left the National Archives there in the care of Juan de la Cruz Borrego, while decisive battles were beomg waged during the French invasion. |
