Thousands of families visit the Basilica de Guadalupe to celebrate the Virgin.

The Guadalupe Virgin is undoubtedly considered the symbol of Mexico. According to what history tells us, the Virgin appeared in 5 occasions, the last on the 12th of December of the year 1531 in Tulpetlac, in the humble cottage of Juan Diego, where she revealed her name which means "river of light turned to love". Each year, thousands of devout believers come to "The Basilique" (the most important sanctuary in the country) to sing "the mañanitas" (birthday song) to the Virgin at daybreak of the 12th of December. The new Basilique was built at the beginning of the nineties. In its interior there are wooden walls and rattan blinds. The image of the Virgin was set on the right side of the main altar. In its surroundings are the market stalls which sell all kinds of religious items, typical breads baked especially for this feast, and canaries that foretell your future. Dancers from different parts of the country are also present offering their dances to the Virgin, filling the place with an explosion of color and movement. Different groups each year organize pilgrimages such as those organized by the Chinese colony on the last Sunday in October and the endless caravans of taxis and bycicles decorated with flowers and images of the Virgin.
