Jesus carrying the cross, alongside the roman soldiers, heading towards the hill of the Star.
This Christian 17th century tradition has become famous in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, and Taxco, Guerrero. Staging the Passion and Death of Jesus is a liturgical act most people bring together each year after the celebration of the Virgin of Guadeloupe. Starting from 1853, local people have represented the main passages of The Passion using images and sculptures on Holy Friday.
The protagonists are selected from among the inhabitants of the place. The church of San Lucas is adorned to receive the crowd observing the Last Supper and the Selling of the Redeemer, both of which have exceeded the liturgical to become part the region´s cultur. Another phenomenon is created by the Ceremony of Condolence in the sanctuary of SeÒor de la Cuevita, where the Redeemer´s body is exposed alongside the Virgin of Los Dolores.
