Orchest playind in the auditory of moorish style.

One of the most beautiful and unique theaters in Latin America and the site of the International Cervantine Festival. A medley of architectural styles it was inaugurated on the 27th of October, 1903 by President Porfirio Diaz. The great auditorium hall, in Moorish style has 5 levels; the patio, the parterre section, 1st, 2nd and 3rd box seats and the gallery. The work on the stucco ceiling exhibits a series of ornamented circles that go on to a point where hangs an enourmous chandelier. The designs of the decoration are the finest work in this hall (a mass of trimmings, flowers, etc.). The front curtain portrays images of Constantinople with its mosques. Outstanding is the facade with 12 Doric columns with bronze capitals, very majestic indeed. Also noteworthy are the 2 bronze lions measuring 1.80 mts and the iron candelabra that support bronze, porcelain and crystal lamps.
