This village lies to one side of the highway La Venta-Tulancingo the "pulque" producing high plateau of the State of Hidalgo. Outstanding is the white, Franciscan church amidst numerous small houses. Before the Conquest (Tzincuilcan (Singuiilucan) was part of the Tezcuco (Texcoco) kingdom which together with other towns such as Otumba and Tepeapulco, formed the domain of Cacamatzin, Nezahualcoyotl's sucessor. In the 16th century this region was conquered bythe Spaniards. The Church was built by Juan Francisco Dominguez and dedicated to Saint Anthony. The Augustines arrived in 1540 and constructed the convent erecting the priory of their order. Three notable events made the Christ venerated in this church famous: 1. On Holy Thursday in the year 1651 the Christ in the procession loosened from the cross and began perspiring, this happened again the following day; 2. At the beginning of thre 17th century the size of the hands changed several times when on a certain occasion the cross was to be changed. 3. In 1711 the Christ grew to a natural size. All these events are conmemorated on Pentecost Sunday. The town's surroundings are a number of interesting hills hardly visited , which make it nice for excursionists. |
