This ancient town was founded in the first quarter of the 17th century. Both during the colony as well as in the Porifirian period it was a retreat for the capital's elite; today it is one of the 16 political jurisdictions which make up the Federal District. Tlalpan is considered Mexico's spiritual center as it abounds in temples and religious centers. Its outstanding feature is the hill for which the town was named extending 3,929 mts. Among the most relevant buildings is the Church of San Agustín de las Cuevas (barroque style), Chata House (an example of the great country mansions) and the 16th century "Casa de Moneda" (The Mint). |
