Granaries used as housing units.
Granaries are carpentry works typical of the state of Michoacan. They´re clean and have precise joints that can be taken apart in two days. Constructed entirely out of wood, they´re characterized by the richness of their finish, their ornamented porticos, and the use of shingles on their roofs. Granaries
are used as houses, or as warehouses for storing corn. These constructions are easily found in Michoacan because of the abundant amount of wood in the area.
They aren´t as common as they used to be because their costs are higher nowadays.
Granaries consist of two main constructions: The bedroom with bamboo awning, which is the one used as a granary, and the kitchen. The latter is another small wooden construction separated from the main one. The interior furniture is elemental: rolled up sleeping bags, rope in the corners for hanging clothes, and the family altar.
